Council uses laws to target rogue traders

Bridgend County Borough Council is reassuring members of the public over its use of so-called “spying laws”.

Figures released today show that councils across Wales and England have used the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 10,000 times in the past five years.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s use of the Act is almost always used to investigate serious trading standards/public protection offences and housing benefit fraud and use has also fallen substantially in the last two years.

We CANDO it! Week long operation in Phillipstown brings pleasing results

The recent week of high visibility activity in and around the Phillipstown area has been a success. It follows a co-ordinated response to tackle issues highlighted by the local community.

The weeklong CANDO (Community and Neighbourhood Directed Operation) was organised and implemented by the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership, which incorporates agencies including Gwent Police and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Easter Egg-citement at Flat Holm

Easter family fun, five miles off the coast of Cardiff. That's what's on offer at Flat Holm Island this school holiday.

The historic conservation area is playing host to an Easter Egg Hunt on the weekend of April 18th and 19th. As part of the daily trip, all children can take part in a search for the "special treasure".

Yellow Pages recycled into cash for schools and trees

Bryn Primary School in Pontllanfraith has scooped the top prize in a competition to recycle old Yellow Pages.

Schools across the Caerphilly county borough are celebrating their success in the Yellow Woods Challenge – the simple, educational and fun environmental campaign for schools, run by Yellow Pages working in partnership with the Woodland Trust and Caerphilly county borough council.

Essential Maintenance of Southern Way Viaduct

Residents, visitors and hauliers are being advised that major renovation is taking place on Southern Way Viaduct between April 9th and April 19th which will cause disruption to travel to those who plan to use this route.

Advance notice signs are in place at each end of the viaduct, on Rumney Hill and Newport Road. The alternate route is via Rover Way and Newport Road. Hauliers are advised to leave the M4 at junction 33 and travel to the west side of Cardiff via the A4232 and the tunnel to the port west dock entrance.

Holiday fun at Cardiff Central Library

A trip to the new Cardiff Central library this school holiday will ensure everyone has an eggcellent time!

The dedicated children's floor will have everything to keep the little ones entertained this Easter. Along with hundreds of children's books in both English and Welsh to capture their imaginations the library will play host to a number of storytelling sessions.

Saturday, April 4 was officially Dino Day. Other events aimed at 4-8 will take place on Saturday April 11 at 11am and on Saturday 18 at 11am children can hear how the fearless Traction Man lands on Planet Duvet and encounters many adventures along the way.
