The Welsh Assembly Government is piloting a new scheme called ProAct that can provide up to £4,000 per employee to help retain key staff in a business during difficult times. ProAct aims to help employers and employees deal with a fall-off in orders and provide an alternative to redundancy by way of short-time working and retraining during the days not being worked.
The scheme, which was launched by Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths, will initially focus on the automotive sector for the first few months, until April 2009. It will be widened if the pilot is successful. |

In what are very challenging times across the economy, the tourism industry is no exception. Contrary to many opinions, some experts are predicting a good year for tourism, especially from overseas visitors as the value of the pound makes the UK and Wales very cost effective and at the same time Europe and the US very expensive for us.
So we could see an influx from overseas visitors and more people choosing to holiday at home. Furthermore, in times of recession and economic gloom, it is claimed that holidays become a necessity ‘to get away from it all’.
A recent survey undertaken by First Choice and Thomson has confirmed this. |
