Gold Award for Gwynedd & Anglesey Symphonic Wind Band

The Gwynedd & Anglesey Schools Symphonic Wind Band has come out on top in a competition for the best wind bands from throughout Britain.

The British wind band final contest was held at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff on Sunday, 19 April, with six bands selected from the preliminary rounds. Once again, the gold award was presented to the Gwynedd & Anglesey Symphonic Band under conductor Paul Hughes.

The Community Chest Grant Scheme was established to support voluntary and community activity in Flintshire.

In the past a wide range of community groups have secured grants to provide local services and help promote community spirit, for example, sports clubs, childcare organisations, health groups, tenants and residents associations.

Royal Welsh to receive Freedom of Flintshire

Flintshire County Council is to grant the Freedom of the County to the Regiment of the Royal Welsh at a special ceremony in Mold on Friday, 24th April, 2009.

The Regimental Band will lead a parade through Mold starting at 11.10a.m. at Mold Campus followed by over 120 soldiers who will march through Wrexham Street and High Street where the salute will be taken by the Chairman of the County Council, Councillor Quentin Dodd and the Commanding Officer Colonel Gerhard Wheeler, OBE.

Cardiff Trading Standards rogue trader warning

Cardiff Trading Standards is warning residents to be on the look out for rogue traders and bogus callers. During spring and in particular the Easter Bank Holidays, Trading Standards has seen an increase in the number of reports about illegal activities.

The rogue traders particularly focus on the elderly and the vulnerable and offer services that they know the householder maybe unable to do themselves such as gardening, cleaning driveways and patios.

Getting to the butt of the credit crunch in Wales using real nappies

Flintshire County Council, with Waste Awareness Wales and Sustainable Wales, is urging parents across Flintshire to switch to real nappies to help them reduce waste and save money as part of Real Nappy Week (27 April to 3 May).

For most potty training children in Wales, around 5,000 disposable nappies will have been sent to landfill, that’s enough to fill 156 black rubbish bags per child.

Carmarthen Markets Bold Step Towards its Millennium

CARMARTHEN has had a market for more than 800 years but it has not seen anything like this.

Seventy-four traders selling everything from Timbles and Things to Prince Charles approved cakes, antiques and Welsh hams, are packed into a bright new £4million market hall.

The shutters came down and the old Market hall  was locked up for the last time on Saturday (April 4th) as the last customers and traders left the old market hall before the demolition men moved in.

Community toilet scheme set to be launched in Cardiff

Following successful schemes across the UK, a community toilet scheme will be launched across the city's boundaries to increase the amount of toilets for the public to use.

Businesses across the capital are being asked if they would like to take part in the scheme, where they would make their toilets available to the public during opening hours, in return for a grant, courtesy of the Welsh Assembly Government.
