http://www.wales-cymru.org: Caerphilly goes green as more than 11,000 home composter bins are sold to green residents in the Caerphilly county borough, who are all doing their bit to cut the amount of waste going to landfill.

Even more people will get the chance to purchase a bargain bin next week at a special home composter sales day taking place at ASDA Caerphilly (in the car park near the recycling banks) on Wednesday 8th of July between 2:30pm and 6:30pm.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is offering residents the opportunity to purchase the home composting bins at a subsidised price of just £10.00. The units have a hatch at the base and a lid at the top and come in two sizes - 220 litres or 330 litres.

Composting diverts organic waste from landfill and helps to reduce the build up of greenhouse gasses such as methane. Compost is also rich in nutrients and can provide an excellent soil conditioner for gardens.

If you can't get to the event, you can visit any of Caerphilly's cash offices to pay the £10 fee. You will then be given a receipt by the cashier which you take along to one of the following official collection points:

    * Blackwood Garden Centre (Rear of Blackwood RFC)
    * Community Furniture Enterprise, Lawn Industrial Estate, Rhymney

You could also pay an additional £5 to have your compost bin delivered to you.
