What do the Taj Mahal, the Great Barrier Reef and the Acropolis all have in common with North Wales? Council chiefs and local communities are today celebrating the news that Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal has been given World Heritage Site status. The journey which began in the 1999 when it was put on the UK’s list of potential World Heritage Sites ended this week in Seville when UNESCO granted Thomas Telford’s masterpiece equal status with the Great Barrier Reef, the Taj Mahal and the Acropolis. |

1st Queen's Dragoon Guards to Parade in Wrexham |

1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards will be marching through Wrexham on Thursday 16th July at 11.30 am to mark their 50th anniversary. The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Arwel Gwynn Jones will inspect the Regiment with the Lord Lieutenant and he will also take the salute.
The Guards, who have recently completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan and were the subject of a BBC Wales documentary, have a long association with Wales which is reflected in their nickname "The Welsh Cavalry". |

Swansea celebrates 40th birthday |

BABIES born in Swansea on Friday will be getting a special birthday present courtesy of the city's Lord Mayor.
Each child will be given a silver coin specially minted by the Royal Mint to commemorate their birthday and the 40th anniversary of the announcement that Swansea was to receive city status.

Even more communities throughout the county borough are set to receive a major roll-out programme of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Food Recycling Scheme.
So far 20,000 residents across Rhondda Cynon Taf have been offered the new scheme that aims to reduce the amount of household waste sent to landfill.

http://pr.cannazine.co.uk : According to news sources in South Wales a campaign is being waged against the proposed bio-fuel plant which has been provisionally planned for Newport. Organisations invloved in the campaign include Biofuelwatch and Food Not Fuel, both of which cite deforestation and world food shortages as reasons not to go ahead with the 25 megawatt biofuels plant, which would consume upwards of 40,000 tonnes of vegetable oil a year, in creating 75% of the electricity power needs for Newport householders. |

Zara fashion will open Swansea outlet in August |

FASHION giants Zara will be swinging their doors open to the public in Swansea later this summer. They say their unit at the new retail complex on Princess Way will be open for business at the end of August.
The Zara store will take up 1,500 square metres of the iconic new building at the former David Evans site and will be split up into departments for men, women and children.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Swine Flu Latest |

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is aware of 13 cases of swine flu being diagnosed in the county as of 11am today (July 9).
All of the cases were diagnosed by a GP or NHS Direct and, in line with the national guidelines, those affected are recovering at home having received, where appropriate, the necessary medication. |
